Open T.R.A.I.L. Ranch serves an unmatched mission to those with special needs. These individuals require routine and for many, our facility has become their happy place. The desire to begin the fundraising efforts for our Covered Arena Project comes from our participants who show that they crave the experience we provide and continue to show up week by week. However, when the weather is bad we either must stay indoors or cancel our sessions. We have found that this can cause a set-back no matter how minor it may be for our participants. Having a covered arena would just about eliminate cancellation of sessions or progression out in the arena. After chatting with some parents/guardians/ caregivers, we have found that the majority of our participants struggle more at home when they do not attend their sessions. This covered arena will do more than just serve as a barrier for inclement weather, it will provide additional opportunity to those who are seeking it.
As it’s 13th year wraps up, so will the end of this Covered Arena Project. As all construction comes with surprises, we had major delays in our covered arena. Starting back in August 2024 with an expectation to complete by October of 2024, we came to a quick halt when we learned that something wasn’t right. We brought in a Geo Engineer and took some soil sampling, this told us so much more about our land that we were not aware of. Suddenly, the years of hard work in fundraising and finally gathering what we needed to begin was no longer enough. We began to accrue additional charges as the needs for our blueprint needed some drastic change. Currently, we are looking to make up for the cost and every penny helps.
